Fitness Friday no.1

Happy Friday to you all!!!

Today is day 1 on our new fitness plan. This is the day, and the year, to focus on getting strong.  Here are some quick facts as to why it’s important to have strong muscles.

  1. It boosts your metabolism
  2. It strengthens your bones, ligaments and tendons
  3. It will help your posture
  4. Strong muscles will keep you moving (like they say in French “grouille ou rouille” – move or rust (or even better: move it or lose it)
  5. It will make your everyday life activities easier. No more huffing and puffing while going up the stairs.

If you’re not used to exercise, please make sure your main focus is on proper form. It’s wonderful to be able to complete 2 sets of 15 repetitions of each exercise, but it won’t help you gain strength if you end up getting hurt. Take your time, learn how to execute each exercise properly. It’s not a good idea to go too fast anyhow. If you go too fast, you’re using momentum to move your joints, not muscle strength. If you’re unsure how to execute each movement properly, please click here  to access the exercise library from the American Council on Exercise website.

I also want to share with you a nice little gem I found online yesterday. I highly recommend you check out her blog and read her posts. She is a great source of information on healthy eating. She may be young, but I believe she’s quite intelligent and capable of starting a healthy eating movement in her generation. Her name is Natalie and you can find her recipes here at Plates’n’Weights.

I hope you’re all having a great very first Fitness Friday! Let me know how you’re doing!!!  🙂   And don’t forget to share your own tips and healthy recipes in the comment box below. I’d love to read them all.

  1. Good Morning to you! I see this landed in my email inbox super early, wow! My husband and I worked out a plan, including eating. (which you know I am a slacker about!) He informed me I need to stop putting it off. So today is the day. (as I wonder what to eat for breakfast and drink my coffee, lol) I am so glad to see this post up and looking forward to not being able to move for a while. Off to check out your recommended site. Thanks again for this!
